Fox Jones

Robert Leo "Fox" Jones ("Rookie"1 ), born April 22nd, 1915 in Forrest City, AR,2 was a Negro League baseball player from 1932-1934.

Biography

Jones was the son of Frank Jones and Cornelia (nee Lattimore) Jones Richards. He was born in Forrest City, AR, but moved to East St. Louis, IL by 1930.3

Jones played with the Memphis Red Sox in the Negro Southern League from 1932-1933, as well as early in the 1934 season.4 5 Later in 1934, he also appeared with the Cleveland Red Sox in the Negro National League. He returned to the Memphis Red Sox once again in 1936. After playing semi-professionally for several years in St. Louis, he joined the Brooklyn Brown Dodgers of the United States Baseball League in 1946.6 7

Jones was inducted into the St. Louis Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame in 1983.8 He died on March 10, 19929 and was buried in Sunset Gardens of Memory Millstadt, IL.10
