Claude Gilyard

Claude Hampton Gilyard,1 born October 16th, 1907 in Fort Smith, AR,2 was a Negro baseball player from about 1927-1931. He was the brother of Luther Gilyard.

Biography

Gilyard was the son of Luther Gilyard Sr. and Pearl (nee White) Gilyard. He was born and raised in Fort Smith, AR.3

Gilyard, a 5' 9" shortstop, played with the Oklahoma Giants of Tulsa, OK4 in 19275 , the Wichita Yellowjackets6 and Scotts Giants of Des Moines, IA in 1928,7 the Tulsa Black Oilers in 1929 and 1931,8 9 and the Michigan Wolverines10 and Holdrege, NE in 1930.11

Gilyard died on March 16th, 1982 in Los Angeles, CA.12 He was buried in Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, CA.13
