Excerpts

"Henry P. Possum Moore, 66, who was rated one of the greatest catchers ever to play with Fort Worth (Texas), died at his home at Fort Smith, Ark., March 26. An Outstanding defensive backstop and consistent hitter, Moore joined the Cats in 1919, the season before the late Jake Atz managed the club to a string of six straight circuit pennants and five Dixie Series victories. Only in Moore’s last campaign with Fort Worth (1926) did the club fail to finish first, although it lost a split-season playoff for the flag to Shreveport in 1919. "The only thing Moore couldn't do was run," Atz once said of the rotund receiver. A line-drive hitter, Moore usually was held to singles and doubles on hits that would be raced out for more bases by a speedier player. Survivors include two sons, Henry P. Moore Jr., and James Marvin Moore; a sister and two brothers. "4
